Palo Duro Canyon is located in the Texas Panhandle near the cities of Amarillo and Canyon. As the second-largest canyon in the United States, it is roughly 120 miles long and has an average width of 6 miles, but reaches a width of 20 miles at places.
Susan Douglass Moody was inspired to pursue art by watching her great-grandmother paint. Susan studied fine arts at Metro State College and the Art Institute of Denver. She now works predominantly in silk and dyes to make nature-inspired images, although she is skilled in several media, including watercolor, oils and photography. She does not use resist with her dyes, but prefers to allow them to flow at will to create unknown and uncontrollable effects. She says, "It is like the dye has a life of its own."
